What a lovely way to wake up!

This beautifully sunny glass is full of Vitamin C, whole-food fiber, and the alkalizing, energizing, soothing power of fresh aloe vera gel! Add a bit of rose water (or orange blossom water… your pick), and you’ve got a light, refreshing day-starter with a wee bit of exotic appeal.

And for those of you watching your sugar intake, this smoothie is not as sweet as straight orange juice, so you can drink more without getting a sugar rush.

I’m in love with the color of this one. The smoothie has that lovely froth typical to all fresh-aloe smoothies, but in the cheeriest of sunshine yellows. How can this not make you smile…

What a wonderfully luscious breakfast smoothie! Ridiculously creamy, extremely mild, low in sugar (you might want to add some additional sweet fruit or raw honey if you’re craving some sweet)… and slightly exotic due to the bit of Orange Blossom Water that finishes it off.

What, you say… you still haven’t picked yourself up a bottle of Orange Blossom Water? Get thee to a Greek or Middle Eastern market pronto! Orange Blossom Water and Rose Water are two just wonderful additions to so many raw smoothie and Live Green Smoothie recipes, it’s not even funny.

My good now overtakes me in a surprising way2

This extremely mild, sunny-flavored smoothie is in response to two requests this week for various ways to increase Vitamin C. So add this to your list of rejuvenating, immune system- boosting, beta carotene rich raw smoothies. And just add some fresh greens to make it a Live Green Smoothie!

Papaya is just tops for enhancing digestion and a beautiful complexion. Add a bit of fresh orange juice and a whole orange (sans peel, or course), and you’ve got a great dose of Vitamin C and fiber as well!

This would be a great smoothie to add a bit of Orange Blossom Water to, but… it’s so refreshing on its own, I quite enjoy its simplicity as well. And if you want to *really * jack up the Vitamin C, antioxidants, and beta carotene… toss in some goji berries!

This is one of those smoothies that makes me wonder why in the world, when beverages like this are so easy to whip up, do most people spend their days drinking diet sodas and other drinks filled with chemicals, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup. People soooo need to learn how to whip drinks up like this. Who could want to keep drinking Diet Coke and SunnyD when they could be guzzling stuff like this instead???

Giant red papaya with fresh mango and a big of Orange Blossom Water results in an extremely mild, fragrant, wonderfully refreshing smoothie that takes just a few minutes to  put together.

And it’s just *gorgeous* in a glass. Gorgeous!

Dang… my blender’s empty already. Wish I had a double-sized container. One is just not enough when you got three hungry adults in the house.

This is the type of recipe that is so easily modifiable and so delicious, it could become all the rage in the mainstream if someone would start passing the word about it and making it for friends and family. It’s just delicately, fragrantly wonderful!

You can add berries of any kind to create variety… you can use Rose Water instead of Orange Blossom Water… you can use banana or pear or fresh orange juice to sweeten the smoothie instead of grapes… and certainly you can add some fresh spinach or parsley to green it up. So many wonderful options!

It would even make a fabulous raw cocktail if you add a shot of your favorite alchoolic libation to your glass.

And in the end… all just wonderful for your skin, tremendously refreshing, extremely mild… and slightly (oh, just slightly) exotic.

My cuppa smoothie, for sure.

pomegranate-maca-fertility-cocktail-smoothie-1

elements-for-life-maca-powder

Maca root is something I have long-wanted to develop a recipe library for. It’s a tricky ingredient because of its pungent flavor, but its long list of wonderful health benefits quickly inspires the desire to want to take it regularly.

You could just dose up on capsules, if that’s your thing. It’s not mine. I prefer taking my nutrients through whole foods and regular meals, including superfoods such as maca. In my opinion, that’s the way to take something in a way your body can best absorb it, and in an amount that’s not overloading or toxic to your system.

What *is* Maca?

Maca root, a very powerful radish, is an ancient staple food of Peru. In addition to its potent “adaptogenic” qualities (the ultimate nutritional and hormonal balancer), maca is reputed to be an aphrodisiac and is famed for its ability to enhance endurance and stamina (think love, think energy, or think athletes… whatever you particular need is).

If you’re an older person needing more vitality, a menopausal woman needing hormonal balance, a woman trying to conceive, a older man seeking a natural “viagra”… if you are metabolically challenged or adrenally stressed… maybe maca root is something that will help you.

One thing I’ve heard repeatedly though… if you take it and don’t want more kidlets… be careful.

:D

Add This Adaptogen To Your Regular Menu

In any event, I have had great experience taking noni juice, another potent adaptogen, and I’d like to take maca regularly… so stay tuned for some interesting maca combinations.

Here, I’ve used the strongly astringent flavor of fresh pomegranate juice, lime juice, and orange blossom water to create a dramatic back drop for the maca, and a bit of coconut oil to mellow the texture. It’s fragrant, powerful, and hopefully both rousing and arousing! No matter our circumstances, we all want to feel our most vital and alive!

My son’s judgment passed on the cocktail: “This stuff’s bangin’… totally delicious!”

For a maca smoothie, I’ll surely take that.

live-green-smoothie-kale-turnip-greens-2

My son’s evaluation of this Live Green Smoothie: “You don’t even taste all the greens… it’s so goood!”

Lately I’ve been assembling some good Kale recipes for the Newbie Set, and today I wanted to create one with significantly more fresh greens, with the idea that it might be better for someone who’s already been around the LGS world for awhile. However… this one ended up so light, creamy, and easy-on-the-palate, most newbs will enjoy this, as well!

There are around 2-1/2 cups of fresh greens in this smoothie, in which I used turnip greens and curly-leafed kale. It’s the first time I’ve used turnip greens, and am impressed with how delicate they are!

Hemp seeds add a delicate milky quality — with lots of valuable protein and essential fatty acids — and orange blossom water gives a fragrant, almost candy-like, flavor.

If you’re feeling blue, make this LGS and you’ll be feeling vibrantly back in the swing of things in no time!

Simple. Succulent. Gorgeous. Quick. Slightly exotic. My favorite combos.

You can make this fresh fruit salad in a jiffy, and if you don’t have pineapple or enough mangos on hand to make the fruit cup, you can use a single ripe mango to make the delicious Mango-Orange Blossom Dressing to put over any fruit you have in your kitchen!

Any… no matter what you pour it over, it’s going to be a real treat!

avocado-fruit-salad-orange-blossom-water-1

This recipe is a hard-core-simple standard that you can use every single day to create a 100% raw, living, and maximally nutritious meal. You can make it on-the-go or at work (just leave out the Orange Blossom water, or keep a bottle on hand at your desk), and you can enjoy it as a satisfying and explosively flavorful, totally juiceified meal at the end of your day!

There is no end to the variations you can apply, as well. How many fruits are on the planet? How many different nuts & seeds? Truly, you can make this as sweet or tart, as unctuously rich or delicately light as you’d like. You can gently salt the nuts you add, by sprinkling them with a bit of water and tossing them with a quality, super-mineralized natural salt (like Himalayan Crystal salt), creating an explosion of sweet, juicy, salty, creamy, floral, and crunch all in one bowl!

And the orange blossom water… heaven. If you’ve never tried it, you simply must, as by now you know that I use it quite frequently. And while you’re add it, pick up a matching bottle of rose water, and you’ll have yet another fragrant combination for your raw and living food recipe arsenal!

Great Recipe For Peaches & Nectarines That Aren’t At Their Best…

After discovering I’d picked up some less-than-stellar nectarines, I figured it was a perfect opportunity to doctor them up in a great raw “milk” shake!

I find both peaches and nectarines to be the most frequently disappointing fruits, with either unripeness or a graininess to the flesh hiding below their gorgeous appearance. So if that ever happens to you, no worries… make a delicious raw smoothie out of them!

And of course, you can use perfectly sweet and juicy-luscious peaches for this recipe too! Just use less raw honey!

Super-Easy, Super-Delicious For A Raw Pot Luck Meal!

The flavor of orange blossom water in this refreshing treat makes it extra cheerful and exotic. Would be an extremely easy addition to a raw pot luck, or a special refreshment if you have company visiting! If you have kids around, make a triple batch…they’re sure to suck these down in no time!

And of course, you could turn this into an adults-only beverage with the use of a little peach, mango, citron, or even vanilla flavored vodka! :D
