If you — like me — love the “high” from raw garlic (so great for your heart and immune system!), and especially if you want to jack up your body’s defenses, make sure you keep jumbo medjool dates on hand so you can whip this dressing up any time you want.

This dressing is also great for anyone into using Traditional Chinese Medicine to increase chi and tonify the blood and spleen because dates and garlic are two of the foods that are said to naturally help with this. If you know anyone struggling with mono (Epstein Barr Virus) or something similar, you might want to let them know about this, as the spleen is highly vulnerable to mono. A couple years ago I was diagnosed with mono, and that’s when I learned about how to use dates and garlic together. I used to use them together to slow-cook chicken (another TCM spleen-tonifier, especially dark meat), and just those two ingredients with some good salt creates the most surprisingly exquisite bar-b-que.

But here’s a great way to enjoy their yumminess and healtifying qualities fresh, raw and lickety-split, with whatever fruit & vedge you like to put into your salads (banana would be a nifty addition to a salad with this dressing!). I used a simple combo of baby spring greens, a chopped yellow pepper, and sliced onion.

The sweetness of the juicy dates pairs so perfectly with the garlic, like a magical combo. In fact, I think this is the kind of simple dressing that a restaurant could use to create a highly addicted clientele. It’s just scrumptious!

A single batch is enough for a very large salad that can serve two people (and fill them up) as a main meal.

Two things I like when I’m eating… something warm and something I can enjoy with a fork, not just drink. And this simple broth brings both together, quickly, inexpensively, and very comfortingly.

You can make this broth very mild… or extremely spicy! Make as-is, or jack up with garlic, fresh chiles, and fresh miso or thai curry paste, then top with some thinly sliced veggies and a bit of fresh greenery (shown here with some simple chopped green romaine lettuce leaves, sliced button mushrooms, and some green onion).

So easy! This is a versatile, comforting, grounding broth you can use as a basic recipe for many meals!

There is nothing “creamy” here, but you can certainly blend some hemp seeds into the mixture, or use almond milk to make the broth.

You can use regular button mushrooms to make the broth, or wonderfully healthifying medicinal mushrooms such as shitake, maitake, or chaga if you want a powerful boost to your immune system. And throw in a larger clove of garlic to really get your head clear!

This would be another excellent broth in which to enjoy some raw liver… which is something I’m doing research on right now, inspired by my dear friend Lauren Michelle Kinsey and her passion for it. Her latest blog post mentions it… check it out.

Feeling a bit run-down, surrounded by sneezers and coughers, or needing to compensate for nasty eating habits of late? Call in “The Immuzer”.

This salad is made with mineral-rich alkalizing kale, it’s doused in garlic (famed for ages for being able to knock pretty much anything unwanted out of your system) and finished off with some fresh lime juice for Vitamin C. Enjoying a big bowl of this is going to right a host of wrongs in your system and set you up for much better immunity for whatever comes your way.

And it tastes delicious. For all it’s simplicity, it’s explosively flavorful and refreshing. My oldest son Curran gobbled down nearly the whole recipe with dinner tonight, saying he wished there were more… and you know how those twenty-somethings can be about eating their greens.
