While I’m visiting family in Florida this holiday week, I continue to be inspired by the abundance of fresh citrus that’s available. The grapefruits have caught my eye and I decided that a refreshing fruit salad was in perfect order, due to… er… a little excess feasting with the fam today. Heh.

Thing is, while I enjoy the natural bitterness of grapefruit, I didn’t want that bitterness to be the starring role. So, with a bit of mango, pear, and Greek thyme honey, I assembled a delightful cast that contributes both sweetness and a creamy softness to the dish. And removing the membrane from each grapefruit section goes a long way to enhancing pleasure here.

It’s a great little salad. Would love to wake up to it any day, but this evening… it’s serving as a tasty digestif.

Simple. Succulent. Gorgeous. Quick. Slightly exotic. My favorite combos.

You can make this fresh fruit salad in a jiffy, and if you don’t have pineapple or enough mangos on hand to make the fruit cup, you can use a single ripe mango to make the delicious Mango-Orange Blossom Dressing to put over any fruit you have in your kitchen!

Any… no matter what you pour it over, it’s going to be a real treat!

This is a seriously versatile recipe you can use many different ways, and it’s a nutritional, energetic powerhouse! Definitely add this to your repertoire, to create delicious quick snacks, a perky no-oil salad dressing, a fruit topping for perhaps any fruit under the sun, or a great dip for both fruit and vedge!

It’s fresh, fluffy, gorgeously orange, tastes not unlike Ginger Fruit Loops, has no added fat, will be a hit with both kids and raw pot luck munchers…and has the combined nutritional power of goji berries (without their raisiny flavor), the potent adaptogen raw maca powder (you will be hard-pressed to taste its strong flavor in this combo…), fresh ginger (great for digestion and a sore tum!), raw honey (anti-inflammatory to soothe the lungs), and fresh lime juice (vitamin C). In other words: Major Zing!

Takes minutes to make. If you’re into superfoods…and even if you’re not… this is a recipe you can make frequently and not get tired of!

The perfume of rose infused with the sweetness of watermelon and the tartness of raspberries… it’s a deliciously romantic marriage. Simple, easy, a feast for the eyes, and a heady experience for the remaining senses. This recipe makes enough for one…but you know you’re going to have to double it for a special *someone* to share with!

Perfect for a raw potluck — just make a few and place all around the table. How beautiful! Everyone will love it… and you can blame me if the love-energy starts to get a little out of hand. :D

Two Raw Recipes with Moscato Wine From Samos

Marinated Fruit Salad

If you want to jack up the heavenly aroma and alluring flavor, pour a 1 oz. shot of muscat dessert wine over top. The famous Muscato from Samos, which I grew up on (that may explain a few things…heh), has been called “nectar of the gods” for ages, and deservedly so. And it goes beautifully with watermelon.

On Samos, if you take a day-trip on a fishing boat to a neighboring island cove, odds are your breakfast on the boat will be a slice of watermelon and a cup of very light Moscato. Now that’s hospitality I could get used to!

Another Yummy Raw Cocktail For Lovers

And if you really wanna create something special for you and a lover…turn that 1 oz shot into 4 oz., blend up with ice, and pour out into two martini glasses. Um…make sure those shades are drawn first, ‘k?

A refreshing and versatile salad, side dish, or main dish with a creamy “mayonnaise” dressing, this twist on the traditional Waldorf is made not with apples, but with crisp pear and tender baby zucchini. You can serve this confidently to your non-raw friends and family without saying a word… it’s definitely an easy-on-the-taste-buds dish that would be a hit on a lot of different tables.

This salad would make a great accompaniment for a lot of cooked, carnivorous meals (if you’ve got family members who are big into grilling, this could be a wonderful little side dish to begin jacking up the raw in the diets of those who would otherwise be loading up their plates with potato salad and chips).

And if you’re looking to stay as high-raw as you can, this dish is flavorful and satisfying enough to enjoy as dinner all by itself. It’s officially one of my new favorites… :D

This makes a very nice sandwich filling with raw dehydrated bread or crackers. Or you can make a “raw-ish” meal by toasting up some Ezekiel bread (would be especially nice with Cinnamon-Raisin Ezekiel bread).

This dish, suitable for a filling breakfast or a cozy, comforting dessert, took all of 10 minutes to make… including the pumpkin seed milk from scratch and the photos! It’s quick, simple, easy, uses ingredients that are readily available in most supermarkets and are easy to keep on hand… and is sure to be a massive hit with kids any time of day!

You can substitute any of your favorite nuts or seeds for this milk — whatever you have on hand, such as almond, walnut, pecan, or hemp — but pumpkin seeds are a particular favorite of mine because A) they’re packed with nutrition, and B) they’re uber-cheap compared with other nuts & seeds. Be sure to get them raw and from the bulk section of your grocery store or health food shoppe.

Great as a breakfast by yourself and an utterly beautiful addition to any table when you’re entertaining (goes equally well with brunch, dinner, and Sunday supper), this lovely combination is a feast for the eyes and seems especially appropriate for any romantic occasion.

For me, every day’s a good day for romance. So it’s a good thing this recipe is so easy!

It’s a favorite on my breakfast table whenever the fruit is in season.
