If only kids drank this instead of milk. Or teenagers instead of Red Bull!

The “engine” of this drink are the polysaccharides in the fresh Aloe Vera Gel — they give a great long-lasting fuel, with the sweetness in the bananas giving a quick energy lift. The flavor is light, the texture is creamy without being cloying, and it makes for a pretty drink… as all smoothies are, I find, when I’ve added fresh aloe.

A Mild-Tasting Drink For Long-Lasting Days

This is a great drink to make when you have a long day ahead of you with nary a prospect for slowing down, or if you’ve got an athletic event planned (hellooo ballroom dancers!). You can pour it out over ice in a wide-mouth water bottle and take with you for a quick energy lift when you need it!

Those polysaccharides are great for keeping one’s joints, connective tissues and inner organs “juicified” and healthy, so again… great for athletes. And for athlete wannabees. :D

A Few Words on Fresh Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is a superfood given to us by the Egyptians and worth finding ways to add into your diet at every possible occasion, which is why I regularly post smoothie recipes with aloe as a base. I find I can pick up a large aloe leaf at my local grocery store for just 99 cents, so I usually keep a few on hand at any given time.

Aloe also has a neutral taste that pairs well with raw smoothies, although if you juice the whole leaf, it’s famous for being bitter. But in my smoothies, I cut open the leaf and just scoop (or rather, slice) out the goopy gel in long sheets, making sure to keep the green out of the blender.

There’s something enjoyable about getting that gel out. Takes me back to childhood in a very nice way.

Well, autumn is beginning to segue into frost season, so I had to bring in the potted basil plant that’s been on my balcony all summer. And those basil leaves looked so enticing on my kitchen counter, I decided to just use them all up in a new Live Green Smoothie recipe!

Paired with fresh lime, fresh aloe vera gel, and a couple other goodies, this whipped up into yet another aromatic and refreshing LGS With Aloe. Am just amazed at how deliciously restorative aloe-based drinks are. I had a couple less-than-stellar days with my diet and wanted to create a potent alkalizing smoothie, one that would really jack up the alkalinity of my system and go a long way to calm any inflammation in my tissues and joints.

For alkalizing, this smoothie means business! The fresh basil (as a living green…), the aloe vera gel, and the lime juice all have potent alkalizing effects, and the basil, aloe, and raw honey all have anti-inflammatory properties. So… after a day of drinking this yummy stuff, I’m already feeling back to my normal self again. :D

And health properties aside, this smoothie is fragrantly delicious! Truly an excellent one for taking to the gym and the dance studio.

This is a very special smoothie — the prettiest shade of bubble-gum pink, whipped up in minutes, and containing a massive array of healthful goodness, some of which is generally difficult to figure out how to consume without unpleasantness or a hassle.

Aloe Vera - Superfood of the Egyptians

Aloe vera is, according to David Wolfe, a potent superfood that came to us from the Egyptians. The gel contains vitamins A, C, and E, the minerals sulfur (great for skin), magnesium, zinc, selenium, and chromium, and well as an abundance of antioxidants, fiber, amino acids, enzymes, sterols, lignins and…most importantly…polysacchrides.

These polysaccharides have a lubricating effect on the joints, nervous system, brain, and skin and are a “long-burning” carb that provide steady energy over time. There’s also much that’s been written about aloe vera’s assistance in weight loss, as well as the healing and rejuvenation of the skin.

Thing is… the gel of the aloe vera plant is pretty gross & gummy on its own. But paired here with whole pomegranate and a few other alchemically yummy ingredients, this drink goes down so easily you could knock off the whole batch without trying! And you very quickly start to feel its power working on you.

An Exotic Smoothie For Everyday… For Health, Longevity, and Peak Athletic Performance

This smoothie has a delicate, exotic, floral taste to match it’s lovely color, and could easily become a daily favorite for anyone looking for the healing power of those polysaccharides. I know I plan on adding this to my daily anti-inflammatory regimen, to diminish soreness during my workouts!

When you get a few glasses of this smoothie into your system, you may come to think of it as a Super-Hero Elixir. I’m tellin’ ya…Wow!
