Lately, I’ve been drinking my Live Green Smoothies warm. It’s been soothing, comforting, and energizing, and an excellent beverage in the evenings.

This tea, warm but still “raw” (not cooked) and very much “living”, makes an excellent nightcap.

The color of a nice juicy shiraz or cabernet, this Blueberry-Grape Warm Live Tea has the kind of berry-sweet, grapey flavor that makes an evening glass of red wine so satisfying.

It may revolutionize the options that you turn to when you want to just kick back.

Growing up in Minnesota in the 70s, I was a hard-core Girl Scout, complete with uniform, camping, badges… the whole nine yards. And one of the staple recipes that Girl Scout moms of that era new how to make was something called “Russian Tea”, a blend of Tang with instant Iced Tea mix and sweet spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. I have no idea if anyone in Russia actually drinks spiced orange tea, but it was certainly verrry warming, fragrant and delicious, especially by the campfire.

These days, I wouldn’t go anywhere near Tang or an instant tea mix, but I can make a Warm Live Tea that’s even better. And it’s a green smoothie to boot… full of chlorophyll, viable enzymes, vitamins A, C, and E and all kinds of other good stuff that make for a healthy, energetic, youthful body.

If the idea of enjoying your Live Green Smoothies warm is new to you… stick around. There are many more to come. And they are wonderful.

sparkling-mango-margarita-raw-cocktail-1

Kombucha goes great in raw cocktails, and I’m particularly fond of pairing it with Black Medallion dark tequila. Dark tequila contributes it’s own reputed “medicinal vibe” and delicious flavor, and Kombuch adds a champagne-like sparkle and zesty tang. Add some fresh mango and a bit of orange peel and fresh orange juice and… it’s a lovely festive raw cocktail for weekend kicking back.

Recipe for: Sparkling Mango Margarita with Kombucha

A Festive Raw Cocktail With a Double Kick!

  • flesh from 1 mango
  • juice from 1 orange
  • 1/2 to 1″ piece of fresh orange peel (don’t include any of the white pith)… use the larger amount if you really like the orangey flavor of Triple Sec used in margaritas
  • 1-1/2 cups dark tequila (Jose Cuervo “Black Medallion” is what I use)
  • 1 cup or so Kombucha, any flavor (I had guava and ginger flavored on hand, but most any kind will work nicely)
  • 2 cups ice

Blend all ingredients except the Kombucha in the blender. Then stir in the Kombucha afterwards (it would overflow violently if you try to blend it).

Pour out into margarita glasses and enjoy!

green-smoothie-warm-live-tea-cilantro-lemon-1

green-smoothie-warm-live-tea-cilantro-lemon-2

I can pretty much guarantee most of you have never tried something like this before (I never did)… A sweet, lemony Live Green Smoothie served warm, like soup or tea. It’ so comforting, soothing, and warming… and exactly the sort of thing your body needs when it’s battling a cold or flu or allergies. I tend not to want Live Green Smoothies during those times because I crave warm beverages then.

Well, now I know what to make.

This tea may be green and blended like a smoothie, but it goes down with the mellow comfort of chicken soup.

Cilantro juice has been known to be a potent detoxifier of heavy metals in the body. Here, the cilantro is blended (into a whole-food juice, if you have a high-powered blender like my Blendtec). Paired withe alkalizing, liver-cleansing power of fresh lemon juice, the sweetness from fresh grapes, and a wee bit of raw honey to round out the sweetness, and it’s revitalizing energy in a cup!

creamy-warm-live-lemony-nightcap-tea

I’m a bit puzzled as to what to call this drink. I mean, it’s creamy like hot cocoa, but warming and with the zesty heat of a nightcap. And it’s made like a Warm Live Tea… Well, it’s utterly wonderful for any of those purposes.

And in fact, it’s absolutely delicious without being heated up. I wanted to guzzle the entire blenderful.

But alas, I was relegated to only a few sips. (The Marginally Raw Twenty-Somethings in the house all drank the rest of it down. )

Though this is all “raw” and non-dairy, there is no almond milk or hemp seeds or cashews added to give the creamy texture. It’s pure avocado and fresh lemon juice, with honey to off-set the wonderful tang.

A real winner. Next snow storm, make sure you have the right ingredients on hand for this one!

A Tropically Exotic Warm Live Tea: Watermelon-Papaya With Orange Blossom Water

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *LGS Daily Recipe| Drinks

warm-live-tea-watermelon-papaya-orange-blossom

My son Curran’s comment while tucking into a second cup of this tea with a friend: “How many pink drinks do you know that are healthy for you? …Pepto Bismol does not count!”

These new Warm Live Teas that I’m making are a big hit at home, and this one is just fabulous! Gorgeously colorful, and so aromatic and soothing.

It’s tummy-warming, the kind of drink that makes for an enjoyable nightcap when you want that warm sensation of a “hug”… and yet it’s all fresh fruit and full of living enzymes and rich in nutrients.

Great way to start the day. Great way to end the day.

Warm Live “Creamy Vanilla Pudding”… Drink It Like Hot Cocoa

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *LGS Daily Recipe| Drinks

I doubt you’ve ever had avocado this way before. And you wouldn’t know that’s what makes it so creamy unless I told you.

:D

Enjoy it warm, like a Warm Live Tea or Hot Chocolate, and enjoy the mild, smooth, cozy, comforting vanilla-ness, a combined sensation that is quite unlike anything else found in the world of raw food recipes.

This is recipe is a keeper. And with just a few utterly pedestrian ingredients, it’s something you can make any time!

Two Warm Live TEAS… Made With PEAR: Pear-Ginger and Pear with Rose Water

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *LGS Daily Recipe| *Live Green Smoothie RECIPES| Drinks

pear-ginger-warm-live-tea-1

Warm Live Teas are similar to Warm Live Soups… they’re smoothies made from raw ingredients, then briefly warmed up without cooking them. But in this case, the teas are sweet. And so delicious.

Instead of having a decaf herbal tea flavored with the essence of fruit, just make a warm tea from the fruit itself!

Here is a very soothing Warm Live Tea made with pear and fresh ginger root, and another one made with delicately aromatic Rose Water. Pear and rose is a classic combo, and it works just great here!

Two Warm Live TEAS… Made With Watermelon: Watermelon-Ginger and Watermelon-Vanilla

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *LGS Daily Recipe| *Live Green Smoothie RECIPES| Drinks| Great Raw Pot Luck Recipes

watermelon-ginger-warm-live-tea-1

(Above: Watermelon-Ginger Warm Live Tea)

I bet you’ve never had watermelon like this before! And what a great way to enjoy it.

Warm Live Teas are like Warm Live Soups in that they are smoothies made of raw ingredients which are then warmed briefly to a soothing temperature that’s almost hot to the tongue, but comfortable to your skin when touched.

And they are delicious.

While I love cold drinks, I don’t think it’s particularly healthy to drink too many of them, and I know of people who don’t like them at all. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), practitioners often caution against drinking cold beverages or too much cold food, believing that it can dampen the “digestive fire”.

These Warm Live Teas are full of living nutrients, rich in enzymes that are still viable, and made so fresh that the recipe is literally 2 minutes from the time your knife slices open the fruit til it hits your lips with its soothing goodness.

And you will find that there is something unexpected about watermelon used this way… it almost mimics the creaminess of hot cocoa. In fact, I have made watermelon-raw cacao “chocolate milk” before and was surprised to find how well they go together.

But here I have paired Watermelon and Fresh Ginger Root together, as well as Watermelon and Vanilla.

Watermelon-Ginger is extremely warming and robust… it will both soothe AND energize you. While Watermelon-Vanilla is mild, comforting, and mellow.

Don’t let these intimidate you because you’ve never had fresh fruit this way before. Dive in. I know you will love them.

:D

Fresh Blood Orange Screwdriver… A Raw Cocktail (or Fresh Juice Blend for Virgins)

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *LGS Daily Recipe| Drinks

fresh-blood-orange-screwdriver-1

img_9936

The blood oranges are abundant in the grocery store lately, and they just beckoned for some cocktail action. This recipe is a twist on the classic Screwdriver, with a custom juice blend to provide the right amount of sweetness and lemony “zing”.

What is a Blood Orange?

As the name suggests (the photos here demonstrate), blood oranges are red on the inside. The pigment in the red color comes from anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that appears as either red or blue in fruits and vegetables such as cherries, blueberries, eggplant, or red cabbage.

The blood orange is less sweet, but with a mellow flavor not unlike what one finds in cherries. High in Vitamin C (apparently up to 130% of the recommended daily allowance), it’s not a bad way to get a boost for your immune system and skin health.

Well, anyway… sounds like a good enough excuse as any for a zingy, brilliantly colored cocktail.
