Pythagorion on the island of Samos... the birthplace of Pythagoras, and where my family is from.

My Background

I’ve been a lover of great food as far back as I can remember. I relished working side-by-side with my mother from childhood to prepare the exquisite Greek dishes that were such a part of my upbringing, and I started pouring my attention over cookbooks in elementary school, launching an early passion for inventing dishes for my family.

In fact, I don’t think I can undermine the effect my Greek upbringing had on my sensibilities around food. Growing up visiting my family on the island of Samos in the Aegean, ingredients were simple, fresh, colorful, and utterly delicious. A great part of every day revolved around the pleasure — and community — of eating. And the imprint of gorgeously sensual fruits and sensational comfort foods left an indelible mark that is with me yet today.

"Horiatiki" Salad -- The center of any Greek's table...

By the time I was in my teens, I was a lover of Things Gourmet before gourmet had hit its stride, and by 20 I started working in some of the country’s best restaurants.

I’ve been a waiter or headwaiter (captain) in great places such as Gotham Bar & Grill and Union Square Cafe in NYC, and The Ryland Inn in New Jersey, where waiters are expected to be professionals and keepers of rarified knowledge and purveyors of rarified service. In Minneapolis, in earlier years, I opened Yvette at Riverplace and worked at Mitterhaus La Cuisine and The New French Cafe. I’ve worked at French, Italian, Bistro, California, Spanish & Portuguese restaurants, and studied fines wines for years as a part of my work.

At the same time, I started a family early and, in lieu of the freedom to travel, I used the kitchen as my travel medium. I learned how to cook Indian, Thai, French, Italian (and Greek) cuisines from scratch, without recipes. The world of food and creating delicious experiences, and working with the finest ingredients I could lay my hands on, has been an enormously significant and intensely creative, fulfilling part of my entire life.

Pioneering Raw, Living, and Superfoods Cuisine

Enter: Raw foods. For me it is the most natural pleasure to be able to delve into this brave new world of raw, living, and superfood cuisine, and to share my discoveries and creations with others.

My style is not fiddly or complex. It is home-cooking and simple, with maximum pleasure for minimum effort being modus operandi, always. In that regard, my spirit in the kitchen is very similar to Nigella Lawson’s. I’m no chef… but a great lover of great food!

p

Delicious Food, Extraordinarily Healthful Food… For Everyone

So, in that vein I hope my creations are accessible — and useable — to many. I create dishes for the pleasure of my own taste buds, which by now are irretrievably jaded. But my focus isn’t on rarified technique — it’s only on the simplest, best, cleanest, most wholesome ingredients… food with maximum life force, minimally contaminated by the massive urge in our current culture to push-push-push and force past what nature is naturally inclined to create in its most balanced state.

I love to feed. I love to nourish. I love to give pleasure. My world is driven on many levels by the urge to experience the full deliciousness of living, on both a physical as well as a soul level.

So, I invite you into my “kitchen”, and hope you find some enjoyment, pleasure, and deliciousness there which makes a difference in your life, which brings your soul a feeling of satisfaction, your spirit some upliftment, your taste buds fulfillment…and your body unprecedented vitality, nourishment, and health.

Welcome to My Kitchen. :D

Finally found a site design that I like…

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *Site News

I’ve been looking, looking, looking for the right Wordpress “theme” for the site, and I finally found one that had the elements I needed, with the contemporary “magazine” styling that I like.

This one was designed for Smashing Magazine and has the modern edge that I wanted… with the 3-column layout, the double right-hand sidebar, and clearer navigation. I hope everyone enjoys it and finds it easier to see what’s in the site.

Note: In the handy color-of-live-smoothies green Search window, you can choose to see 1) Latest Posts, 2) Latest Comments, or 3) the Tags that have been assigned to site articles!

The site will be going through some streamlining over the next week, in conjunction with the release of my Ultimate Superfoods Resource Center.

Live Green Smoothie Diet Site Now Two Weeks Old…

My Live Green Smoothie Diet site is just two weeks old, but I discovered today that out of 340,000 search results for “How To Make A Green Smoothie”, mine is on the 1st page of Google, and the 5th non-video item. In addition, my Before & After pictures are showing up on the first page of certain searches, and the site is #2 for Green Smooothie Diet on yahoo (Google hasn’t yet shown it the cred it deserves *grin*).

I’m closing in on 700 visitors, after a slightly slower second week because my posting has been quieter while I’ve been developing my Ultimate Superfoods Resource Center. But I think the site is off to a good start.

My intention is to blast Live Green Smoothies out of the niche raw food community and out into the mainstream, where people can learn how easily they can add green smoothies into their lives and normalize their weight and reclaim the health & energy they crave, without deprivation or struggling with guilt.

We’ve Only Just Begun…

There is just so much information I have to share here on the subjects of both green smoothies  & raw foods, it’s a bit like trying to channel Niagara thru a firehose, but week-by-week, I’ll get it out.

My “Ultimate Superfoods Resource Center” will have many articles and videos to browse, as well as a shopping page where you can buy superfoods both “on-the-cheap” and “the best from the best” at a discount. And after that I’ll launch my free eBook, “Happy Juice: The Live Green Smoothie Way to Happines For No Good Reason.” And there’s more planned beyond that… the coming weeks will be full of “launches” and new recipes and articles.

It’s currently a one-chica show here, and less than two months ago I didn’t know how to build much less run a website and make it visible. One thing I’ve learned — everything takes far more time than one might imagine. Hopefully with experience, the process will streamline for me.

Please bookmark the site and come back frequently!

And leave your comments and feedback when you drop by! I love checking out your own sites if you have them, or answering questions if you have those!

Looking forward to getting to know you better…

Angela

Having Fun with Wordpress Themes

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *Site News

If you come by the site today and see the site reloading in various themes, it’s cuz I’m trying to find just the right combination of features that I feel will make site navigation easy & enjoyable. This is what I’m looking for:

  • A 3-column theme so everything isn’t all smushed together on the right there.
  • Sidebar widgets that have nice “button-type” headers.
  • Sidebar items and links to generally be more visible.
  • A theme that retains a “Live Green” feeling.

In fact, I’ve downloaded my own theme-generator and have decided to design my own theme for the long-run. But I want something decent for in-the-meantime.

So… bear with me. Enjoy the content while I find just the right “look & feel” of the place, here!

And by the way, your comments about what you like/don’t like in the existing format… very welcome! :D

First Post - Live Green Smoothie Site - Yay!

Posted by: Angela Leeds In: *Site News

What a journey just getting to this point with the site! It was only February 4th, 2009 (just a handful of weeks ago) that I decided to finally take action and bring my Live Green Smoothie vision to the web.

Although I’ve fiddled about with blogging here and there, I knew absolutely nothing about how to make it a profession, and certainly not a thing about the areas I’ve been intensely studying this last month and a half, such as:

  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Knowledge Marketing (eBooks, etc)
  • Social Media (Web 2.0)

I started out building my first site with Site Build It! (SBI). Great product, I’m just not the right customer for it — I require far too much freedom, despite my lack of web-design knowledge. So I migrated over to Joomla, which certainly offers much more flexibility and a more polished outcome for someone with my non-HTML background. But once I got into it, it was just too hard to manage — very time-consuming and non-intuitive, and began to waste my time like crazy.

Since I’m going to be the one designing, writing, and managing this site, I decided that WordPress was the way to go. I joined Jack Humphrey’s Blog Success, and he’s a WordPress guy… and I have some familiarity with it from having started a few blogs over at Wordpress.com. So… even though I’ve spend a lot of time on my Joomla site, I’ve thrown it all out and have started all over from scratch.

Sometimes, that’s just the way to go. And I can feel I’m on the right track now. Things are flowin’ smoothly again…

One other change: I was holding back telling people about my site until “it was all done and ready for launch”. Not so anymore. I’m going to put up a “My Story” section with Before & After pictures of my Raw Foods/Live Green Smoothie Transformation, and then I’m telling everyone to come and visit and chat while I build the site to reflect my vision!

I have tons of passion and creativity on the subject of Raw Foods and Live Green Smoothies! My vision is very broad — it’s not to convert everyone to a “100% raw” lifestyle. That’s not even what I do in my own life. While I love and respect that choice when others make it, I simply want to show people new ways they can “jack up the raw” in their lives. There’s most definitely an entirely different Culture around “going raw”, to whatever extent one does it. There’s a different way of thinking, of preparing foods, of including raw, living and superfoods in one’s life. Anyway I can show others how to do that and to increase the vitality, nourishment, and super-charged POWER that comes from Jacking Up The Raw… that’s what I’m all about!

I also have a very specific “Live Green Smoothie Diet” to share with others. It’s what I did which completely transformed my life and opened up many new and wonderful vistas. When I get the basic legs of my site built, I’ll start sharing that as well.

In the meantime, here’s a compendium of the various blogs I’ve fiddled with and do update periodically. They point to some of my passions, and clearly suggest that I was born to be a blogger but just hadn’t found the focused channel as yet. With this Live Green Smoothie site, I most definitely have!

My Raw Blogs (Just warm-ups for what’s to come…)

My Personal Blogs

Please check them out, comment as you wish… and come back each day to see how I’m progressing!

See you all on Facebook & Twitter…
