If you juice up a whole pumpkin… what to do with all that juice? (My thought being, if you’re gonna do it… DO it, and create some extra juice for tomorrow from your effort today.)

Here’s a great recipe for that, as berries so nicely off-set the quintessentially pumpkin flavor of the fresh juice. And pumpkin seems to have a starchy quality which adds a creaminess to the smoothie.

If you don’t have raspberries, use blueberries, cherries, even goji berries or golden (“Peruvian”) incaberries instead!

In this smoothie, I use only half of the raspberries in the smoothie itself, and the rest is mixed with some honey into a mash that you can put on top as a garnish. It then settles into the smoothie as you drink it, giving texture, and a great hit of raspberry juiciness.

I’m picking up where I left off with documenting my own Live Green Smoothie 85% Challenge activities, including what I’m eating, my estimated cost, and any exercise or other commentary that seems relevant to the experience.

Last told, I documented through Day 17, but I stayed with it for about a month, at which point funds and some other personal matters became restrictive and I had to ease off. But… not one to back off forever from something I care about, here we go again!

I’ll start with tomorrow’s activities.

I don’t know to what extent anyone is benefiting from this information, but I imagine that ultimately it provides a sense of what how regular people — not just 100% raw “rawkstar” types — can fit living foods in greater quantities into their very real lives. And as I am tracking cost estimates and averages, that’s a decent point of reference as well, I’d say.

For anyone who’s doing the LGS 85% Challenge as well… feel free to comment! I’d love to see some discussion happening on the site!

New Jack La Lanne “Powerjuicer Elite” Juicer!

My new juicer arrived this week, so you’ll be seeing a lot of fresh juices included in my 85% Challenge for the time being. The juicing isn’t formally part of the challenge — I find that the smoothies are better, generally speaking, primarily because they are far more convenient, which means that someone has a greater chance of staying with the routine of adding raw & living foods to their diet.

But I’ve been wanting to do a “juice feast” for a couple years, and am quite keen on adding as much fresh juice as I can right now. Juicing was my first “raw love”, going back to the late 80s, and it’s just tops for rejuvenation and revitalization.

100% “juice feasting”, however, requires a financial commitment I’m not currently able to make, so I’ll just be including as much fresh juice as I can.

My first batch of juice: a “Purple Gingerade”, made with the following:

* Two large chunks of fresh ginger root

* Large bunch kale

* Big stack of carrots

* 2 large beets

* pile of red grapes

* large handful cherries (didn’t even have to de-stone them — the juicer did the work for me!)

* a couple apples

Made about 3/4 gallon, which I drank over two days. Finished off the last of it tonight, topped with some “premium”, super-gingery ginger ale. Yummm.

The post below was originally published on my “This Raw Life” blog on September 18, 2009: Dave the Trucker: Raw Food Weight Loss of 178 pounds in 13 months!

Check out this more recent video about Dave…he’s now lost 200 pounds! Dan McDonald (“The Life Regenerator”) has been following Dave’s progress all along. Be sure you check out Dan’s youtube channel… he’s an awesome resource and a very cool dude.

This guy is just so awesome…I’m in love with him.

Whoever thinks that raw & living foods are just for kitten-kissing, long-haired hippies making love-beads on some commune…think again! Here’s a truck-driving “regular guy” who’s discovered the power of it…and is reinventing his life, his body, and his health in the most inspiring way!

Here he is introducing his story — he had stage II colon cancer, kidney disease and other serious health challenges, and he was 411 pounds and on 19 prescription medications. He’s now off all 19 meds, cancer-free (documented with his doctor) and he’s changed to the raw foods lifestyle. Don’t miss this interview!

If this doesn’t inspire you to change your life and your health the way you would like, I’m not sure what will!

(These interviews are done by wonderfully passionate Dan McDonald, “the life regenerator” — check out his You Tube channel here! to see more video interviews of Dave the Trucker!)

p

Here he’s talking about the nutritional energy “zing” of “juice feasting” on live barley powder, as well as the power of colonics, and how amazingly resilient his skin has been despite having lost 178 pounds in just 13 months (16 months by the time this vid was shot)!

There’s are three months between the first video and the second one. Look at how much more of a “raw glow” Dave has in that second vid! Raw & living foods really do make a demonstrable difference, one you can both feel and see!
