Warm Live “Russian” Tea… A Spiced, Raw GREEN SMOOTHIE Tea

Growing up in Minnesota in the 70s, I was a hard-core Girl Scout, complete with uniform, camping, badges… the whole nine yards. And one of the staple recipes that Girl Scout moms of that era new how to make was something called “Russian Tea”, a blend of Tang with instant Iced Tea mix and sweet spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. I have no idea if anyone in Russia actually drinks spiced orange tea, but it was certainly verrry warming, fragrant and delicious, especially by the campfire.
These days, I wouldn’t go anywhere near Tang or an instant tea mix, but I can make a Warm Live Tea that’s even better. And it’s a green smoothie to boot… full of chlorophyll, viable enzymes, vitamins A, C, and E and all kinds of other good stuff that make for a healthy, energetic, youthful body.
If the idea of enjoying your Live Green Smoothies warm is new to you… stick around. There are many more to come. And they are wonderful.

Note: You can also just make this without the cloves & nutmeg, with just cinnamon, and it’s perfectly delicious!
- 2 cups baby spinach (you can also use fresh parsley, but I would only use 1 cup of it because its flavor is less neutral)
- juice squeezed from 2 oranges
- 2 cups spring water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- a few dashes ground clove (less than 1/8 teaspoon)
- a few dashes ground nutmeg (less than 1/8 teaspoon)
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Then add to saucepan and warm up briefly until the liquid is very warm… but still comfortable to your bare skin. Pour into mug and enjoy.
