Fast. Non-fat, except for whatever macadamia nuts you throw on top. Quick. Made from just a few basic ingredients. Filling. Delicious.

If there are a few raw quick-meals you want to learn, something like this should be in the Top 10.

You can whip this up for a filling breakfast that will definitely last through til lunch, if you have a busy morning planned. You can have this on the table in minutes for a quick dinner if you need to be somewhere soon, or don’t want something that will weight you down.

And it would make a lovely dessert. I would serve this simple dish at a non-raw buffet, that’s how delicious it is. And with all the baked, choco-fatty stuff people bring to those things, imagine the delight that everyone will experience that they can enjoy something lusciously delicious, creamy, and sweet… without guilt.

The creamy sauce is made with bananas and juicy medjool dates, without any fat or nut milk. And if you have a Blendtec or Vitamix, you can cycle it through a few times until it’s warm, turning the dish into some seriously soothing comfort food.

Seriously… good eats.

vanilla-macadamia-green-smoothie-aloe-vera-gel-2

This unique Live Green Smoothie is a meal, and though you could probably live on the thing, could also easily categorize as either a dessert or a high-test energy drink.

Wow.

Vanilla and macadamia nuts together are just a classic combo. And here, they combine to make a rich, creamy, delicious, mild smoothie, just loaded with minerals from the kale and the macadamia nuts, and rich with polysaccharides from the fresh aloe vera gel, it’s a pure delight. And such a lovely shade of delicate green! Green smoothies never had it so good.

And if you don’t have kale handy, throw in some fresh spinach or parsley instead. If you don’t have medjool dates, use some raw honey, cane sugar, or agave nectar if you’d like. Not into bananas? Use a heaping tablespoon of coconut oil and a good chunk of raw cacao butter instead, and jack up the sweetener a tad bit.

Extremely versatile recipe. And one you should make sure you try to keep the ingredients around as staples, so you can whip it up whenever you really need some deep, natural nourishment.

And a teaspoon of raw maca powder in this recipe would work very well, too!

Raw chocolate and raw maca go together brilliantly. I already have a “ChocoMacaVerde” Live Green Smoothie recipe on my site for pairing those two, and you can also add a teaspoon or raw maca powder to my Liquid Brownie recipe for spectacular results.

Now here’s a third option, one without hemp seeds or avocado, but still creamy, luscious, and mild. Can’t taste the maca in this one at all…tastes just like a creamy chocolate milkshake!

And, of course… you can always add some fresh spinach or parsley to make this a Live Green Smoothie!

vanilla-maca-smoothie-shake-1

vanilla-maca-smoothie-shake-2

I’m just delighted with this shake. After feeling like a million bucks after yesterday’s maca recipe, and feeling an extra spark in my step today despite a very challenging week healthwise, I was eager to add another maca smoothie option to my kitchen. And this one is something most people could whip up regularly without getting tired of it… and from pretty pedestrian ingredients, once the raw maca powder has been procured!

If you’ve never tried maca powder and have been curious to venture into the unknown, might I suggest you start with this recipe!

Light, frothy, creamy, very vanilla-y… hard, even, to taste the maca.

One of the underlying flavors I always get when I smell maca is a kind of caramel nuance, which makes me thing of vanilla, creamy banana, dates, and aromatic coconut oil, all of which are combined here to a delicious shake a kid would never know was meant to promote energy and health.

I hope you like it.

pomegranate-maca-fertility-cocktail-smoothie-1

elements-for-life-maca-powder

Maca root is something I have long-wanted to develop a recipe library for. It’s a tricky ingredient because of its pungent flavor, but its long list of wonderful health benefits quickly inspires the desire to want to take it regularly.

You could just dose up on capsules, if that’s your thing. It’s not mine. I prefer taking my nutrients through whole foods and regular meals, including superfoods such as maca. In my opinion, that’s the way to take something in a way your body can best absorb it, and in an amount that’s not overloading or toxic to your system.

What *is* Maca?

Maca root, a very powerful radish, is an ancient staple food of Peru. In addition to its potent “adaptogenic” qualities (the ultimate nutritional and hormonal balancer), maca is reputed to be an aphrodisiac and is famed for its ability to enhance endurance and stamina (think love, think energy, or think athletes… whatever you particular need is).

If you’re an older person needing more vitality, a menopausal woman needing hormonal balance, a woman trying to conceive, a older man seeking a natural “viagra”… if you are metabolically challenged or adrenally stressed… maybe maca root is something that will help you.

One thing I’ve heard repeatedly though… if you take it and don’t want more kidlets… be careful.

:D

Add This Adaptogen To Your Regular Menu

In any event, I have had great experience taking noni juice, another potent adaptogen, and I’d like to take maca regularly… so stay tuned for some interesting maca combinations.

Here, I’ve used the strongly astringent flavor of fresh pomegranate juice, lime juice, and orange blossom water to create a dramatic back drop for the maca, and a bit of coconut oil to mellow the texture. It’s fragrant, powerful, and hopefully both rousing and arousing! No matter our circumstances, we all want to feel our most vital and alive!

My son’s judgment passed on the cocktail: “This stuff’s bangin’… totally delicious!”

For a maca smoothie, I’ll surely take that.

chili-lime-mango-tequila-martini-1

chili-lime-mango-tequila-martini-2

… with a virgin recipe for teetotalers.

It’s been awhile since I posted a raw cocktail recipe, and this evening’s frigid temperatures inspired me to whip up something with fresh chiles and a bit of heat. I picked out a nice fragrant Serrano chile for this Tequilatini, and it gave a delicious flavor of fragrant hot pepper (with not a little bit of heat) to this blend of dark tequila, lime, mango, and a few other goodies. Pick out your own chile… Jalapeño, Habañero… whatever’s your fave.

This would be great in hot weather, too… the heat allegedly makes you sweat and cools you off. But tonight, as the temps sink ever closer to zero… I appreciate the sweating for the warmth of it.

Chocolate is set here, but much darker than shows up in the photo.

Chocolate is set here, but much darker than shows up in the photo.

Frankly, this is a great chocolate to make when you just want chocolate… forget the nuts & nibs.

:D

Honestly, when you make a raw chocolate treat like this for the first time and experience and fast and easy it is to make something so satisfyingly delicious, you’ll wonder why you ever made those Peanut M&M runs to 7-11.

This particular chocolate is a little different from my other raw cacao recipes… it highlights some awesome Mexican vanilla a friend so graciously gifted me recently (a gigantic quart-sized bottle… can you imagine???), and is nicely salted to offset the sweet. For best results, definitely use the best quality vanilla and naturally mineralized salt you can get your hands on.

And if you have all these good-but-simple things already in your kitchen as staples, this is a no-brainer to whip up on-the-fly. If you don’t have macadamia nuts or nibs, you can use any other nut or seed — and don’t forget Goji Berries. Or you could just eat the stuff off a spoon as soon as it’s mixed up.

I swear to you, it takes probably just two minutes to get to that point. That’s how quick a chocolate-fix this really is. Heh.

raw-chocolate-milk-aloe-vera-gel-1

If you haven’t yet tried any of the smoothies I’ve been whipping up lately with fresh aloe vera gel, maybe this will be the one to send you over the edge and buy a handful of aloe vera leaves at your local grocery store. I’d like to say that this is my favorite one, but the thing is, every smoothie I’ve ever made with fresh aloe has it’s special appeal.

This one… a rich dark-chocolatey blast of well-being from both the intense choco-magnesium and aloe-polysaccharide. Both frothy and refreshing… and it’s made without any nut milk, and without the addition of hemp seeds. Quite spectacular, really.

What a delightful discovery. This one will become a regular in my kitchen, absolutely.

persimmons-with-vanilla-milk

img_8493

This is another recipe I so wish I had conceived of earlier in life — makes me think, “Who knew?” What a luscious, satisfying combination, great for a quick breakfast (especially if you’ve made the Vanilla Milk the night before, from either raw pumpkin seeds or raw almonds), but also wonderful for a light supper or a pot luck dessert.

The persimmons have a sweet, custardy delicacy off-set by the crunch of the macadamias, and the Vanilla Milk ties it all together with its creaminess.

And to think it’s loaded with minerals such as zinc from the pumpkin seeds or calcium from the almond, and magnesium from the macadamia nuts, beta carotene and antioxidants and a host of healthifying phytonutrients from the persimmons… It’s all very, very, good.

Library of Raw Smoothie Recipes Made With Fresh Aloe Vera Gel

My love affair with using fresh aloe vera gel in raw smoothies continues. For a quick review of all the smoothies on my site to-date containing fresh aloe vera gel, here’s the list:

One thing I’ve learned from making all these aloe vera smoothies is that you can use the fresh gel from a massively large aloe leaf and still never notice any “taste” from the aloe. I always find that quite surprising, because when I cut open a fresh aloe leaf, I always inexplicably smell “chicken soup”. I have no idea why that is, but it always reminds me of the chicken soup smell from cafeterias when I was a kid. That odor or taste has never made it into a smoothie, though… they are all utterly delicate, mild, and supportive of whatever other flavors and ingredients have been added to the mix.

Caramel-Vanilla Raw Smoothie With Fresh Aloe Vera Gel

That a mild, creamy, vanilla-y, so tasty raw smoothie can be this simple and so healthful sometimes just blows my mind. If only we all had known earlier that healthifying, revitalizing food could be like this. But it is certainly quite exciting to be living on the cutting edge of discovering these brilliant combinations that have been just waiting to be known!

This smoothie is creamy, refreshing, comforting, and frothy (the way all smoothies are when made with fresh aloe vera gel). Both of my Boyz really enjoyed this smoothie — the recipe definitely passed muster with the Marginally-Raw-and-Male crowd.

Make it yourself and see what you think!
