pomegranate-raw-slushie-cocktail

pomegranate-raw-slushie-smoothie

Oh. Dear. Me. So good. So simple. So utterly GORGEOUS. And it whips up so quickly you could probably fit it in during a television commercial break (if you watch TV, that is…). :D

If people knew they could be drinking this amazing stuff, would they flock to Starbucks for fancy milky-sweet coffee drinks? I suspect not. Raw slushies are just too amazing for words… and you feel amazing after drinking them, because they’re made with pure, freshly juiced juice!

What a great “virgin” raw cocktail before going out dancing on a Saturday night (my current state of mind). Buy the ingredients in this one and MAKE IT. Dang… <<slipping back into 7th-Heaven Bliss…>>

zingy-apple-ginger-live-green-smoothie-1

A shout out to Melinda Chiavelli, who asked for a smoothie recipe made with apples. This is for you, doll. :D

This tasty smoothie has got ZING and HEAT from fresh lemon juice and lots of fresh ginger root! Woo-hoo! It’s not too sweet… “just sweet enuf”… and you can certainly make it with or without the fresh greens.

Whips up in just a few momentitos… and it guaranteed to perk up your spirits and energy if either is lagging!

pear-pomegranate-rose-raw-smoothie-1

pear-pomegranate-rose-raw-smoothie-2

Yah, I do love these Barbie pink drinks. And I do love my rose water. But you can make this without the rose - it’s delicious either way.

The pear in this smoothie gives a juicy voluptuousness which plays so nicely against the the tannic tartness of the pomegranate. And honestly, it almost doesn’t get any easier than this when it comes to smoothies. Thank goodness for high-powered blenders that let you blend up whole pomegranates!

If you don’t have a high-powered blender… watch out for the pomegranate seeds. You’ll have to give it a few goes to break them down. Wouldn’t want you breaking any teeth, now.

But whip this baby up when you want to feel fancy (or impress a guest with your raw aptitude *grin*). Pour out into a few exotic glasses and you’ll feel like it’s New Year’s Eve! And then just wait for the rush of aliveness as that pomegranate makes you feel like a million bucks. :D

“Jack up the raw” over the holidays…without giving up your favorite food or parties!

Make plans NOW to launch 2010 feeling great, not overweight, low-energy, or depressed. Use Angela’s easy-diet 6-week program to make it happen!

four-pillars

The “Four LGS Pillars” of Jacking Up The Raw

From personal experience looking for the easiest way to increase the amount of high-water-content, nutrient-packed raw and living foods in my diet — without making it too complicated or stressful from trying to make too much change too quickly — I assembled the following four basic principles that comprise the “Jack Up The Raw” program.

If you follow these four simple principles in the way that works best for you, you will radically increase the raw and living foods in your diet… without stress, without guilt, without frustration, and without too much effort.

p

This is the approach that worked for me.

This is exactly the approach I followed to take myself from a 225-lb. size 20 body to a size 6 just seven months later. And while I was achieving that change in my life, I was not “perfect” with my diet. I had brownies. I had spaghetti with meat sauce. I even had pizza. I never apologized for it or tried to hide it, and I don’t try to hide these things now if I should ever have them.

Because see… we’re talking about a radical change here. And true radical change takes time to really integrate comfortably. So let’s just acknowledge that from the beginning and instead of taking a forceful approach, let’s take the gentle path. I promise you… it works.

p

Dietary Change and CULTURAL Change

This change is not just a change in diet, it’s a change in culture. By switching from an orientation toward primarily cooked food to one that is oriented toward living foods, you’re actually inventing a new culture for yourself, a new way of feeding yourself and deriving nourishment, comfort, and pleasure from food!

Your emotions are affected by this change. And your sense of inner safety can be triggered by going too long without something you may have associated with stability and comfort your entire life. If you make a change that’s radical, and don’t provide an occasional “escape valve” of sorts when you need it, to allow yourself to adjust to the pressure of that change, at some point it’s highly likely that you will become frustrated with yourself and your inability to conform to the ideal that others have painted as being so wonderful.

Some people make a change to 100% overnight and stay with it forever, no problem. But this program is designed to be flexible enough for EVERYONE, for the regular guy and regular gal who wants to jack things up but isn’t yet ready for an extreme immersion. And if that’s you… and you try to make too extreme of a change… you will become frustrated.

Who can live for long with that level of frustration? Most people will give up. But if instead one digs in and tries to force oneself to “be perfect”, does that really lead to a state of health?

p

Doing Away With Food Obsession And Complex, Stressful Rules

We live in a culture that can be seriously obsessed with food and with dietary rules. From a young age, I struggled with eating disorders and thus know the intense frustration and self-loathing that can be invoked by attempting to adhere to overly rigorous dietary rules.

Personally, I regard stress and obsession over food as more toxic than the unwanted food itself. “Food” is intended to be the very thing that nourishes you and gives you a foundation of strength and calm energy. So let’s approach our food and our diet from that perspective.

p

The Easy Road to Raw… or Rawish… Whatever Is Best For You

These four principles make living with food and jacking up the raw so easy, all you have to do is focus on adding as much of the good stuff as you possibly can, and the rest… the rest you don’t have to worry about. It will sort itself out as you continue to adjust to the changes you are growing into.

I hope these principles help you as much as they have helped me, and that they introduce a stress-free, guilt-free, enjoyable journey for you into a more vital lifestyle. :D

(Click here if you want to find out more about the “Jack Up The Raw” 6-Week Coaching Program!)

When we get on the phone together for our first “Jack Up The Raw” coaching session, there’s a lot of ground we need to cover in just 45 minutes!

p

The First 15 Minutes

In the first 15 minutes, we’ll go through the items in the following questionnaire, to get some quick and very helpful insight into:

  • Why you’re doing the program
  • What you hope to achieve
  • And what the realities of your life are like so we can best adapt the principles of the program to work for YOU.

Take a few minutes to read through the questions and perhaps make some notes on some of the points you’d especially like to highlight with me. That way we’ll be able to really make the best of the time we have available to us, so that I can get to know you as quickly as possible.

I’ve included an area for notes in each section, so you can just print out this page and keep it for your records, if you like. I will be taking my own notes, and keeping a folder of our work together throughout the six-week program.

p

The Second 15 Minutes

The next 15 minutes of our call, I’ll go over the simple principles we’ll be working with to keep your approach as simple and “user-friendly” as possible.

I call these principles “The Four LGS Pillars of Jacking Up The Raw“, and you can read about them here.

p

The Last 15 Minutes

And the last part of our phone consultation will be all about the practicalities of making the LGS Pillars work for you, in in the unique way that works best for your life.

One of these strategies is to become aware of how to add as many “Rawish” meals to your day when a full-out “raw” meal isn’t practical, convenient, or… just something you’re going to be able to do without feeling like you’ll go crazy for the comfort and “grounding” of something cooked.

Learning how to “jack up the raw” with Rawish meals is an extremely valuable approach that anybody can use to start increasing the amount of living, high-water-content foods in their diet, without necessarily going to the extreme level that many raw food enthusiasts aim for.

You can read more about “Living A Rawish Life” here. (This is coming out later today - I’ll add the link when it’s up.)

p

Happy reading!

I can’t wait to talk with you one-on-one on our first call! This is SO exciting. It just rocks my world to know we’re gonna rawk yours, together. :D

My son Auden just loves this drink. :D

And I have to agree… this Live Green Slushie really is yummy. And it’s so no-brainer easy, you can whip it up all the time. Zero fat. Zero sugar. Pure living, freshly-juiced yumminess, to make you feel as vibrant as it looks!

Make one of these instead of a cocktail… instead of a dessert… after a hot and sweaty workout… at a party… the next time you’re settling in to watch a good movie… A delicious, gorgeously green treat you can feel virtuous about rather than guilty.

The texture of this frozen Live Green Smoothie resembles the velvety Icees I used to get at Target when I was growing up. I know they’re still around, but of course there’s no way I’d buy one of those things these days, not when I can make some of my own with live ingredients that’ll zing my health as well as my taste buds. Just… watch out for brain freeze! :D

(If you don’t have a high-powered Blendtec or Vitamix blender, your Slushie may end up being more of a Chewie. But that’s just good motivation to get a good machine sometime soon, isn’t it. )

This Live Green Smoothie is exactly what I love so much about these delicious drinks — it’s simple, basic, and with the end product being so completely different from what you’d expect from the ingredients involved.

It’s not too sweet, but “just right”. It’s not too green, but “just right”. It’s the very essence of freshness. Make this one a staple in your life!

With my high-speed Blendtec blender, this smoothie has the consistency of a creamy latte (much to the delight of my 20-something Boyz, who guzzled the majority of this batch before I could grab seconds)!

chopped-kale-salad-a-la-grecque

chopped-kale-salad-a-la-grecque-2

Sometimes ya just want a bowl of greens without much fuss, and here’s one way to do’em up. This salad has the explosive flavors of lemon and fresh garlic in a traditional Greek dressing with oregano and cold-pressed olive oil, a flavor combination used in many Greek dishes.

Very lemony, this dressing has “wake-yourself-up” zest that’s sure to give you a nice “zing” by the time your meal is thru! Makes a great accompaniment to other dishes. Would made a great addition to a raw sandwich. And it will hold up nicely overnight or for a raw pot luck — no need to eat right away.

If you’re still a meat-eater that’s looking just to add-add-add as many live goodies to your diet as possible while still enjoying your carnivorous ways… this salad will be great with grilled chicken or a simple steak. (And I guarantee you’re not gonna hear that very often on the websites of most raw vegan enthusiasts.) :D

Recipe for: Chopped Kale Salad “A La Grecque” (Greek-Style)

A Simple, No Fuss, Super-Quick Recipe

If you don’t care for strong lemony flavors, you can always start out with half the amount of lemon and take it from there.

Also, be careful with the oregano… it quickly becomes bitter if you use too much, or you have a rancid herb that’s hung out too long in your cupboard. Best: use fresh (three times the measurement for fresh herb as compared to dried).

  • 4 cups of kale, chopped fine (leaves only, not the stem)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
  • 4 tablespoons cold-pressed olive oil
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried Greek oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon quality natural salt, such as Himalayan Crystal salt
  • 1 teaspoon raw cane sugar (or raw honey)
  • freshly ground black pepper

Put kale into large bowl. Combine all remaining ingredients and whisk until well-combined. Pour over the greens and toss until very well-combined.

You’re good to go! Eat right away, or let marinate for a bit. Great for raw pot luck, as a side to other raw goodies, or as an accompaniment to a traditional cooked meal. [/private]

What a pretty cocktail! The body of this lovely drink is pomegranate-red, but it has a frothy golden halo that holds up until the last sip. This highly photogenic drink (which would shine all the more in the hands of a more capable photographer) is both sweet and tart, is loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin C, and will leave you wanting more… so make sure you have plenty on hand for a second batch! :D
