The Amazing Power of Turmeric Root
Famed for its anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and stomach-soothing properties, turmeric is a bit awkward to consume in any quantity because of its unique pungency. However, it finds its perfect marriage with mango and orange blossom water in this this simple but delicious recipe.

Turmeric root comes in both yellow (shown above) and white varieties, and is easy to find at any Indian grocery store. However, if you’re like most people and don’t have a corner Indian market you can pop over to, just ask the manager of your grocery store’s produce section to order some in their next shipment. Ask for the yellow variety.
Before making this cooler, spend a few minutes reading a bit about the considerable health benefits of turmeric. I’ve provided a few links here to get you started:
The US government’s “Medline Plus” website, on turmeric.
The PhysOrg website, with multiple articles on the health benefits of turmeric.
A prostate survivor website, on turmeric.

Don’t have Orange Blossom Water?
There’s no substitute for orange blossom water, and it makes a difference in this recipe. It’s not expensive and worth picking up. Try the international section of your grocery store, or a Middle Eastern or Greek specialty shop.
Or you could simply order from Amazon and have it in a few days.
It’s worth having. I use it frequently in my fresh nut pates (to make a fresh “halva”) and raw dehydrated cookies, and it’s great in raw ice cream. Pick up a bottle of Rose Water while you’re at it. They are frequently a pair in recipes. I use the Cortas brand in the links below.
